Hadley's Orient Hotel
Hobart City, TAS
The Story
The longest continuing hotel licence in Tasmania, dating to 1834. Roald Amundsen stayed in rooms 201–202 in March 1912 after returning from the South Pole — the rooms are now the Amundsen Suite, his photograph above the bed. National Trust listed, 71 rooms across the historic building, restored over $2 million from 2013 by Tasmanian owner Don Neil and a heritage architect-led advisory panel. The Hadley's Art Prize, the hotel's $100,000 annual landscape art prize, has been running since 2017. On Murray Street, central Hobart.
