The Story

Pleun and Hennie Hitzert built a five-storey 16th-century-design Dutch ground-sail windmill in the Stirling Range, then surrounded it with replica Dutch houses, the relocated 1925 Gnowangerup Railway Station as reception, and a 1944 DC-3 Dakota — the wartime C-47, restored from 2012, now sleeping two — said to be the only Dakota short-term accommodation in the world. The mill works. It produces wholemeal stone-ground spelt flour on traditional Dutch grinding stones, sold in 1.5 and 15 kg bags Australia-wide. There's a grass airstrip beside the accommodation. Watch for sheep on runway 09-27.
