The Story
A family-run hotel and restaurant in two convict-built 1840s sandstone warehouses on Salamanca Place, originally a ship chandlery. The bricked-over patches in the sandstone walls were once escape doors for criminals fleeing police raids on Ma Dwyer's Blue House next door. Forty-one rooms, architecturally transformed by Mark Drury with multi-storey planted light wells. The top two floors were once where David Walsh ran the betting syndicate that funded MONA. Italian restaurant and bar downstairs.
